Asian American Community Study

The Asian American Community Study is a multiyear, multilingual study focusing on Asian American communities, among the Houston region’s fastest-growing ethnic groups. This effort builds upon Stephen L. Klineberg’s earlier work and will provide even more important insights.

A portrait of Asian American experiences and attitudes

Single-race non-Hispanic Asians are projected to become the largest immigrant group in the country by the middle of the century, surpassing Hispanics. By 2055, Asians are expected to make up 36% of all U.S. immigrants, while Hispanics will make up 34%, according to projections by the Pew Research Center. Closer to home, the Asian population grew 53% in the Houston metro area between 2010 and 2020, nearly three times the growth rate of the region overall.

This study seeks to understand the needs, challenges and strengths of Asian American communities across the Houston region. Once survey findings are analyzed, the Kinder Institute will publish a special report that highlights the participants’ perceptions, experiences and attitudes over time.
