This report presents some of the most important findings from the Houston Arts Survey, the first of three focused surveys that are together called the “SHEA” studies (“Surveys of Health, Education, and the Arts”). Supported by a grant from Houston Endowment Inc., the studies were designed to assess the experiences, beliefs, and attitudes of Harris County residents with regard specifically to these important areas of urban life.
The Houston Arts Survey shed light on the views of a scientifically selected sample of 1,200 Harris County residents about their free-time activities, reasons for attending or not attending arts events, and the importance they attached to the arts in general.
Kinder Insitute Founding Director Stephen Klineberg presented the survey's key findings at the start of the Houston Arts Survey Conference: A Conversation on the Arts - Participation, Perceptions and Prospects.
