voting

This study explores people’s intention to vote in the 2024 U.S. general election.

Ahead of the 2024 U.S. general election in November, the Kinder Institute surveyed eligible Houston and Harris County voters about their intention to vote. This study also looks at voters' concerns about the election that may impact their intention to vote.

Key findings

  • Around 6 in 10 eligible voters in Houston and Harris County are certain they will vote in the 2024 U.S. general election.
  • Intention to vote differs across race/ethnicity, age and political party. The lowest levels of certainty were found among Hispanic, young adult and independent eligible voters.
  • A third of eligible voters are very concerned about restrictive voting laws, and more than half are very concerned about inaccurate election information and civil unrest in the days following the election.
  • Confidence about the accuracy of counting votes in the 2024 U.S. general election is related to a person’s intention to vote: Being highly confident is related to being more certain to vote.
