Public school districts in Texas are expanding efforts to prepare students for life after graduation, including career readiness. However, students and families often struggle to access clear, localized information about high-demand, high-growth jobs that offer a sustainable wage that go beyond basic living expenses to support financial stability.
To improve the alignment between education, training and workforce needs, the Kinder Institute's Houston Education Research Consortium developed a data dashboard connecting localized workforce data to career and technical education (CTE) pathways in the Houston region. The dashboard aligns current programs of study with Houston’s largest and fastest-growing industries, including health care, energy sciences, manufacturing and aerospace, many of which offer well-paying careers without requiring a four-year degree. The tool is meant to empower students, inform decision-making and support long-term economic resilience for both individuals and the broader Houston community.
