Head shot of Vansa Hanson
  • Senior Research Analyst, Houston Education Research Consortium

Vansa Shewakramani Hanson is a senior research analyst at Rice University’s Houston Education Research Consortium. Hanson's research interests include social stratification, intergenerational mobility and education policy. Her current research projects fall into three related streams: (1) the measurement of college readiness as a function of predicted destination; (2) the returns to advanced placement and dual credit course taking in higher education and the labor market, together and separately; and (3) state- and local-level policy shifts as natural experiments. Most of Hanson's work utilizes quantitative methods and she is particularly interested in developing multi-dimensional measures that are useful for informing policy. She has a master's in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Texas A&M University.
