Samples Measuring E.coli Levels after Hurricane Harvey (09/04/2017 to 09/11/2017)

While Escherichia coli (E.coli) is not typically pathogenic, it acts as a good fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) for the kinds of fecal contamination that causes illness.

Below is a map showing E.coli levels in Houston from September 4, 2017 to September 11, 2017. Sampling represented in this graph was conducted by staff at the City of Houston Health Department, researchers at Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine.
