Chris Hakkenberg is a postdoctoral research fellow jointly affiliated with the Rice University Department of Statistics and the Kinder Institute for Urban Research.

His research employs techniques of geospatial analysis in the fields of landscape ecology, biogeography, and remote sensing to model complex landcover phenomena at multiple scales. At Kinder, he 's been working to create a multi-decadal time series of land cover classifications for the greater Houston area to answer questions regarding the spatial distribution and the temporal dynamics of poverty, equality, health, conservation, and transportation in Houston.

Chris received a PhD in Ecology at UNC-Chapel Hill, an MA from Harvard University, and a BA from Reed College.
