Christopher Hakkenberg
Temporary Academic Scholar
Bio Sciences, Rice University

Chris Hakkenberg is a PhD Candidate in Ecology at UNC-Chapel Hill, an Earth and Space Science Fellow with NASA, and an Academic Scholar in BioSciences at Rice University.

His dissertation research employs techniques of geospatial analysis in the fields of landscape ecology, biogeography, and remote sensing to model complex ecological phenomena at multiple scales. At Kinder, he is applying signature generalization on a stack of images captured by Landsat satellites to create a multi-decadal time series of land cover classifications for the greater Houston area. Fine spatial and temporal resolution land cover classifications serve as a means to answer questions regarding both the spatial distribution and the temporal dynamics of poverty, equality, health, conservation, and transportation in Houston.

Chris received his MA from Harvard University and a BA from Reed College.
